The original cast including Wes Craven the director of “A Nightmare on Elm St.” is back for one more scary adventure. The plot of the movie revolves around Heather Langenkamp’s son, played by Miko Hughes, being haunted by Freddy Kreuger. The movie starts out a bit slow, but soon everything falls into place as we try to discover Freddy’s new plot of wickedness and finding a way how to stop him.

Unlike in the original movie, Heather Langenkamp is not playing Nancy; instead she's playing herself. This is a pretty interesting concept that works well in the film because all the previous Freddy films are interpreted as just being movies and now it’s the cast and originators of the series who are getting attacked by their creation. Langenkamp does a fairly good job at playing her role of a mother going crazy, because no one will believe that Freddy is after her and her son. Miko Hughes also does very good job playing a possessed child similar to that of Danny from the horror masterpiece “The Shining.” My only complaint is Langenkamp’s radical mood swings from being scared, to angry, to being scared again all in the same scene. However this may just be an element of the horror genre that I don’t understand.

The film does a decent job at capturing Hollywood as we get to see the movie sets where the films are made and the luscious homes were the stars live. However the movie really shines in its special effects. A particularly memorable sequences is when the little boy attempts to cross an eight lane freeway and a giant Freddy plays a game of cat and mouse with him and the oncoming vehicles. Freddy’s lair, which is an abandoned factory in the original movie, is replaced by an ancient Greek temple and provides a great setting for the final showdown between good and evil.

Is Freddy finally dead? After the success of the first movie, Freddy has appeared in five more sequels that were less than spectacular. However, I was truly surprised that Wes was able to breathe new life into what would appear to be a dying franchise by developing an interesting and quite unique plot. Although this film may be scary to little kids, most adults will find some of the scenes more humorous than scary. Overall, Freddy fans will get another opportunity to see their favorite stalker strike once again, while new viewers will be left wondering why Freddy was such a big hit to begin with.
