So last night I was flipping through the many channels my cable provider offers only to find that the only movies being shown were either ones that I had already seen or had absolutely no interest in. As I kept flipping I just happened to catch the beginning of Showgirls. Now I know this movie has gotten all but bad reviews but I figured that it might be fun to watch an awful movie; plus I’ve always been a bit curious to know what Saved By The Bell’s Elizabeth Berkeley looks like naked - and really, how can you go wrong with a ton of naked women? All I can say is that after the first few minutes I already knew that this movie was going to suck. Yes, I know that I stated previously that I knew it got bad reviews, but I thought that there had to be some sort of entertainment value to this movie. Wrong, wrong, and wrong! It only got worse and worse until the end. The only thing I can say about the ending is that it’s pretty comical - however I doubt that’s what the director had in mind. Anyway, the story is about the eventual corruption of Nomi (Elizabeth Berkeley). It starts out with her hitching a ride to Las Vegas, where her suitcase gets stolen by the guy she hitched a ride with. After going psycho on a woman’s car she gets adopted by said woman whose name is Molly. The acting was so poor that I felt like bashing in my head in hopes of possibly enjoying the movie more. Instead, I decided to grab a few beers and do an assignment due for class. Anyway, I left Showgirls on in the background. Nomi gets work as a lap-dancer at some strip club but she seems to want something more. She works in hopes of gaining fame and glamour as a lead dancer for some show called Goddess. Some other stuff happens; she gets more and more corrupted, and in the end leaves Las Vegas in the same fashion as she enters it. I honestly wonder what the people were thinking when they signed up for this? Were they hoping to commit career suicide? If they were, then, I’m sure they did a wonderful job of it. Score
